Whoopi Goldberg suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump should build his own hotel with a ballroom after the shooting that took place last weekend.
The actress spoke about the issue during the program The View, while the hosts were discussing the shooting that occurred on Saturday (25) during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner at the Hilton in Washington, D.C.
“Look, you-know-who always says he’s a builder, that he knows how to do this. Maybe he needs to build a new hotel there with a ballroom big enough so people don’t have to go to the Hilton, whose ballroom is underneath the building. That’s what he says he does well,” Goldberg said.
“Forget the destruction of the White House,” the actress added, referring to Trump’s order to demolish the East Wing of the residence in order to build a new ballroom to host presidential events.
“I’m just saying that maybe it’s time for someone to build a hotel with a bigger ballroom, because there will never be enough seats for everyone in a ballroom. There just won’t be. There will always be more people showing up than expected—you never know. Maybe that’s something for when he’s no longer president.”
During the show, the hosts also discussed the actions of the Secret Service after the president and other high-ranking government members were evacuated from the venue when the first shots were fired. “We need to do a better job, and thank God for the Secret Service,” Goldberg said.
“Thank God that, you know, this was in the basement, where they couldn’t… you couldn’t get to him, so you had to go here, here, and here before you got there. So that’s… fortunate. But there has to be a better way to do this. There just has to be.”
